Historic Downtown Parkville Adds New Businesses to Diverse Mix of Offerings on Main Street

One of Kansas City’s Most Quintessential Small Towns Celebrates Continued Expansion with Four New Businesses

PARKVILLE, Missouri (May 29, 2025) — Historic Downtown Parkville is growing again, welcoming four new small businesses to its Main Street: Ave and Liv, Larkin Home, Typo’s Bookstore and Sabor Express. Each new brick-and-mortar brings a unique flair, melding seamlessly into the charming mix of more than 35 established businesses in the district.

“We are so excited to usher in new offerings in our community,” says Jen O’Brien, Marketing & Events Manager for Main Street Parkville Association. “Historic Downtown Parkville beautifully integrates its rich history and small-town charm with a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment scene. With a strong foundation of beloved, tenured businesses and fresh mix of new businesses, there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Ave and Liv, a Southern-inspired clothing boutique, is owned and operated by a mother-daughter team, Avery and Melissa Taylor. The shop ushered in hundreds of customers on their opening day in April. This fun, whimsical store sells curated items, as well as clothing from their own collection, Ave and Liv The Label.

Larkin Home opened its doors in May, offering clothing, home goods and an embroidery bar, where customers can personalize a variety of canvas totes, bags, key chains and more. With nods to her time spent in Nashville and Los Angeles, owner Aubrey Larkin weaves in items that carry meaning, depth and the nostalgia of home.

Typo’s Bookstore is opening at the end of May and will feature a variety of hand-curated bestselling books for children and adults, and custom-made literary-themed merchandise. Owner Lisa McCormick is a national award-winning investigative journalist and avid reader with a passion for sparking creativity, curiosity and connection.

“Opening Typo’s in Downtown Parkville was an obvious choice for me,” says McCormick. “This is where I furthered my education at Park University and started my career as a journalist. I have great memories here and look forward to making many more new ones in this fabulous community.”

Sabor Express is a walk-up dining spot where bold flavors meet sweet treats. Serving up hand crafted smoothies, refreshing boba, Mexican-style street corn and other crave-worthy snacks. Owners Mari and Naydelin Chau will open their doors at the beginning of June.

Set in English Landing Park along the Missouri River, Historic Downtown Parkville is a walkable riverfront district just fifteen minutes north of downtown Kansas City. With team base camps for the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament nearby, the town is preparing for a summer of festivities and fun.

“We are so excited to host the influx of visitors from near and far this summer. Featuring scenic beauty, historic charm, incredible cuisine, quaint coffee shops and bakeries, unique retail stores and memorable experiences, Downtown Parkville is small enough to feel like home, but big enough to welcome the world,” says O’Brien.
